Huancayo is a modern city with more than 30 000 citizens; it is only 300 km. far from Lima. It is the capital of Junín and it is located in the fertile valley of Mantaro River, which has a significant rural population. Huancayo has the principal covered shopping center of Peru.

Every Sunday, all the valley’s towns make a small public market where they sell their handicrafts. Both, tourists and Peruvians, think that this market is a very nice activity. Between their main products, you will find for example the weaving of sweaters and other embroideries, ceramics, wood sculptures as well as mates burilados (carved pumpkins).

In this city you will find celebrations the whole year. Sometimes they are in Huancayo itself and other times they could be in small towns around. In the main celebrations you will find not only a great variety of food but also typical dances and traditional music.
